Grass Fire in Harlingen

The week of February 16, 2008, seen high winds in Rio Grande Valley. Harlingen had gusts of 52 mph. Of the many grass fires , one was just to the south of Paradise Park. The winds blew it to the road alongside the park very close to some of the Mobil Homes.. People were out with hoses saving their trees, grass, and homes. Some even loaded up their cars with valuables.

Fire on one side of road , our park on the other side.

The smoke and smell was so strong it burnt your nose and throat.

The fire Department lined up their equipment along the road to protect us.

The Police shut down the road and had people from our Park going North on the southbound Frontage road to get out of the park. Connie and Mary went for pictures after the all clear was given.
GOD BLESS THE FIREFIGHTERS.

That was too close for comfort! We got some pics of the grass fires in Big Bend. The fire got so hot so fast and filled the sky with black smoke then died down to a smokey smog.
